Attitude

James Van Praagh
James Van Praagh (Photo credit: ALA - The American Library Association)
Attitude is vastly important because it presents your image to the world and is the driving force behind behaviour  Your attitude influences your world and everything you do in it. It defines the energy you send out and, in turn, takes shape and colour in your circumstances. If you have a positive attitude, you are more welcoming and people are drawn to you.

A positive attitude opens you to the flow of life. If you are depressed, angry, and unhappy, no one wants to be around you. You literally push people and opportunities away.

To attract positive, joyful, and prosperous situations to you, you must be that way yourself. If you have an open, loving, positive attitude, anything burdensome in life can be lightened. Therefore, it is important to be aware of your mood. It is created by your thoughts. Every day you have a choice of how you will behave, the mood you will give out to the world, and how you want people to know you.

So if you want something in your life, first you must think of it, put your intention behind it, and keep your focus on it. It is almost like baking a cake. The thought is in the oven and you have to keep it baking with belief. You have to see your thought manifesting and becoming real.

Follow your heart and be true to yourself. Never live the life of another. You have to create your own road. You have a responsibility to be the best you can possibly be, so keep your mind and heart open to the higher aspects of your being. And you will harness the power to have a loving and fulfilling life with attitude!

OUR $10 WAGER

My wife and I were at our first stop on our annual Christmas shopping day, making our purchase at Bath and Body Works. After Nadia completed the transaction, I told my wife, “She was the nicest person we’ll meet all day.” My wife was skeptical, as we had a long day of shopping ahead of us and would interact with more than a dozen clerks, associates and wait staff. I suggested that we “make it interesting,” so we put a $10 wager on my prediction.

As the day went on, we visited a number of stores. Some associates were helpful, while others ignored us or brushed us off. By mid-afternoon, we had come full circle geographically and returned to the first mall for a late lunch. As we ate, my wife admitted that I had been right about Nadia and that I had won the bet.

Then, she had a brilliant idea. “You don’t need the ten bucks,” she told me. “Why don’t we walk over to the coffee shop across the street, but a $10 gift card and present it to Nadia?”

Brilliant!

We purchased the card and returned to Bath and Body Works. Nadia, who was ringing in a customer’s purchase, saw us and immediately asked, “Oh, no, what did I do wrong this morning?” I replied, “Nothing. We just want to speak with you after you’re done with that customer.” During the next five minutes, as she completed the customer’s transaction, Nadia looked nervously at us periodically and her co-workers looked at us suspiciously. When the customer was finished, she remained out of curiosity to see why we had returned to the store.

With Nadia’s undivided attention, we told her about the bet and presented her with her $10 gift certificate. She was overwhelmed and nearly broke down in tears. Nadia is a single mother of two teen-age boys, balancing family life, a full-time job and school. She told us that no one had ever done anything like this for her before.

Afterwards, my wife and I agreed that it was the best $10 that we had ever spent. And now we've started a tradition that we’ll continue not only on our annual Christmas shopping day, but on other occasions as well.

Imagine – a mere $10 gift card can boost a person’s confidence and make her feel really good about herself. It doesn’t take much of an investment to make an impact on someone’s life. I can’t believe that we didn’t think of this years earlier – but I’m grateful that it didn’t take us years longer to realize this simple truth. And I’ll never walk around again without a $10 coffee gift card in my wallet to recognize someone’s kindness or effort.

Happiness

Find a quiet place and listen. It should be very quiet. The only sound you should hear is your heart beating. Listen. Peer deep down inside your heart. Do you see someone that holds a special place in your heart? Maybe they have always been there when you needed them; maybe they offered words of encouragement; taught you a lesson; comforted you when you were sick; praised you on your accomplishments. Make this their lucky day. You have the POWER to spread happiness today. A quick note or a kind word is all it takes to bring a smile and lasting memory to someone very special. ~ Gary Harrington

A Woman

A woman is beautiful when she is free, laughing, dancing, singing and spreading joy for all to see!
A woman is beautiful when she is stripped naked of makeup, stiletto shoes, push up bras and able to stand ground in her own nature without flinching to be seen.

The surprising benefits of lemon!

Institute of Health Sciences, 819 N. L.L.C. Charles Street Baltimore, MD 1201.

This is the latest in medicine, effective for cancer!
Read carefully & you are the judge.
Lemon (Citrus) is a miraculous product to kill cancer cells. It is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy.
Why do we not know about that? Luscious Lemon DessertsLuscious Lemon Desserts
Beware of many laboratories that are interested in making a synthetic version of this which will bring them huge profits. You can now help a friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the disease. Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific effects of chemotherapy. How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as not to jeopardize the beneficial multimillionaires large corporations? As you know, the lemon tree is known for its varieties of lemons and limes. You can eat the fruit in different ways: you can eat the pulp, juice press, prepare drinks, sorbets, pastries, etc... It is credited with many virtues, but the most interesting is the effect it produces on cysts and tumours. This plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types. Some say it is very useful in all variants of cancer. It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms, it regulates blood pressure which is too high and an antidepressant combats stress and nervous disorders.
The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that: It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas ... The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth of cancer cells. And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and it does not affect healthy cells.

Karela (Bitter Gourd) can Beat Breast Cancer

MomordicaImage via Wikipedia
Bitter gourd extract, a common dietary supplement, exerts a significant effect against breast cancer cell growth and may eventually become a chemopreventive agent against breast cancer, according to a recent study.
“Our findings suggest that bitter gourd extract modulates several signal pathways that induces breast cancer cell death,” said researcher Ratna Ray, professor in Department of Pathology at Saint Louis University. “This extract can be utilised as a dietary supplement for the prevention of breast cancer.”
Results of this study are published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Previous research has shown Momordica charantia, also known as bitter gourd and bitter melon, to have hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects, according to Ray. Because of these effects, the extract is commonly used in folk medicines as a remedy for diabetes in locales such as India,
China and Central America, according to the researchers.
Using human breast cancer cells and primary human mammary epithelial cells in a lab, Ray and colleagues found the mechanism of bitter melon extract significantly decreased proliferation, that is, cell growth and division, and induced death in breast cancer cells. These early results offer an encouraging path for research into breast cancer.
“Breast cancer is a major killer among women around the world, and in that perspective, results from this study are quite
significant,” said Rajesh Agarwal, professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Colorado, Denver School of Pharmacy.
“This study may provide us with one more agent that could be used against breast cancer if additional studies hold true.” According to Agarwal, the Cancer Research associate editor for this study, the simple design, clear-cut results and the importance of these findings in breast cancer prevention makes this different from previous research.

Looking Back

the c(o)urse of life.Image by 'PixelPlacebo' via Flickr
A diverse group of senior citizens offered insights that came down to these five points:

  1. Be true to yourself by living with intention. Know your heart's desire and seek it.
  2. Live it with no regrets. Regrets are feared more than death. So mend fences, make peace. Take chances, pursue those dreams, and accept failure as well. Rather than be crushed by failure, learn from it.
  3. Become love. Love is not an emotion but a choice; a way of being that involves seeing ourselves and others with kindness and compassion. That love creates the opportunities to follow your bliss, heal wounds in yourself and others, and to find peace despite challenges and hardships.
  4. Live in the moment. Right here, right. That's all.
  5. Give more than you take. Find yourself and then lose yourself. Once you identify your heart's desire and live your life pursuing it, the chance of accumulating any regrets is reduced. Once you become love, kindness becomes part of your purpose, and each moment offers all the joy of a lifetime. This creates an abundance of resources in the form of love. trust, hope, joy, kindness, and compassion. Draw from this deep well and give it away. Leave the campsite better better than you found it, as one wise elder put it.

‘One-minute silence can help you reinvent yourself’

“It is human to react to situation that you would term as out of your control. You tend to get annoyed when things don’t go as you wish to. In doing so, you start distancing yourself from your goals and focus. The multiplication of such reactions develops a negative attitude. You charge your mobile phone today but don’t charge your mind. Your thoughts are constantly hovering over your mind that takes away peace from it. We can’t deny the fact that everyone is busy, but spare one minute during day’s work, keep silence in your mind and give it a break. It will delete unnecessary stuff from your mental frame and you will surely feel relaxed, redefined and be able to reinvent yourself. This is the charging of your mind that will also change your attitude and outlook.”

Speaking on ‘Studying the Science of Attitude’ at AMA’s ‘All Round Grooming – Inspiration Lessons from Indian Wisdom’, Brahma Kumari Shivani said, “Every living or non-living thing needs a pause, which is a big process of rectification of future. In today’s world, what counts most is your attitude. It can make or break you. Your feelings follow your thoughts and the action is derived through your attitude that is your personality, image and future. What comes back to me is my destiny, but it came back from what I sent."

She said, people tend to write everyone else’s scripts but never find time or even think to write their own script. When people don’t act according to your script, you react impulsively and rudely. You can’t change others.

"I am not saying you shouldn’t try to change things for the good, but be objective. This will balance the equilibrium of your thoughts, action and attitude. Only we are responsible for what we are today. Don’t pass the blame on others. In the last one year, there are plenty of cases seeking solace and solutions from psychiatrists and astrologers. Why? These people did not read the process of recession and didn’t change their attitude and way of life. If you want to be happy, start focusing on what is in your control. Alcohol and anger add to the woes of the person whose situation arises out of his own action,” she said.

Chan Meditation: Do It Silently, And With Sustained Effort

The most beautiful Buddha in the worldImage by Wonderlane via Flickr
A friend visited Taiwan recently, the land where Buddha dharma has flowered.
He got us a set of books on Chan meditation and its power to redefine life and death. Also, how, through Chan meditation, one can control life and create wonders in areas where even medical science has failed. The underlying current of the books was that Chan meditation is an easy option to uncover one's hidden intellectual and physical powers. It allows even the most ordinary person to turn into a great soul. It has the power to transform a person without talent to one of great talent and a frail person into a robust one.

Chan was developed by Chan master Sheng-Yen. Sheng had to flee China during the Communist takeover in 1949 and take refuge in Taiwan. The whole idea has its basis in the fact that the mind has to concentrate on one point, whether abstract or concrete. And the attempt is to bring out the individual's greatest intellectual and physical ability, hidden deep within.

The Chan way of meditation is often referred to as the ''gateless gate''. It is so because the so-called gate is both the method of practice and the path to nirvana. Similarly, it is gateless because the Chan method does not believe in any particular method to help a practitioner achieve liberation.

In Chan, remember just one thing: A practitioner cannot be self-centred. Then, the Chan gateway opens up on its own. For that, one has to give up the notion of 'i' at all stages of life while dealing with people and all other living beings. The complete elimination of 'i' enables one to acquire wisdom to deal with others as if one is dealing with oneself. Attachment is eliminated in order to develop compassion and awareness about others' hardships and problems.

Chan stresses on two major forms of practice, both roughly corresponding to the Bodhi Dharma's two entries: one through principle (silent illumination) and the other through practice. But both the methods require the same foundation: a stable and unified mind. Both lead to the same end: the realisation of the nature of the mind, which is emptiness. It is all about acquiring Buddha-like nature, wisdom and enlightenment.

In the silent illumination method, it is important that the mind is aware and clear about things around even though there are no thoughts. Both silence and illumination must be there. Silence is total concentration and illumination is the flowering of the mind as if it shines in the mind like the sun in the sky. In other words, there is complete clarity minus the worldly baggage of attachments.

In the practice method, it is as simple as helping the needy and the helpless as if you are helping yourself. It involves devotion to others, and the practice of making offerings. Exercise is necessary to keep body and mind healthy. This is the foundation for overall spiritual development.

The effects of Chan meditation take place at two levels: psychological and physical. The psychological effects are increased patience, curing of various allergies, strengthening of will power, enhancement of the power of thought, refinement of the personality, rapid calming of the mind, mood stabilisation, raised interest and efficiency in activity and the final attainment of enlightenment. On the physical level, Chan is effective in curing diseases.

In the end, it is faith that drives Chan meditation. Other factors that help promote Chan meditation are: humility, gratitude and repentance. These traits help one become humble and humane without which no one can hope to achieve the ultimate goal - nirvana.

BE THANKFUL

thankful treeImage by jenosale via Flickr
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something.
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations.
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge.
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary.
Because it means you've made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those
who are also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.

8 Reasons why you should Walk

Mist & Morning Walk
Walking is beneficial in so many ways. It’s good for heart, our body and overall health. It’s one of the easiest and most accessible forms of exercise we can do. Most people already walk around all day, so why not us? You can easily burn fat and can get rid of that excessive unwanted calories.
Here are top health benefits of walking:
  1. Walking is an excellent way to manage your weight. There are many negatives with a lot of different exercises, but walking doesn’t have any. In fact, you can walk as much as you want, have time for and are able to. It’s a relatively easy exercise that you can do almost anywhere (even back and forth in your hallway at home) that’s good for your whole body, not just one part. In addition to a 30-60 minute walking on a daily basis, you are also walking throughout the day, which means you’re working out constantly.
Using a pedometer can be beneficial because we now know that we should be walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day in order for walking to be beneficial to us. Putting your pedometer on in the morning as soon as you get up will let you know how many steps you’re taking. You can make it into sort of a game and try to beat your previous walking record(s).
  2. Walking can help to prevent from diabetes and heart disease. Keeping your weight within healthy limits can help lower your risk for diabetes and heart disease. Walking can also help to control your blood pressure and can be even more effective than some medications (with no side effects).
People who walk regularly also are at lower risk for heart attack. In fact, they are 30 to 40 % less likely to have a heart attack than someone who does not walk regularly for exercise!
  3. Going for a walk helps to lower bad cholesterol levels. We hear a lot of hype about bad cholesterol, but we also need good cholesterol. Regular walking helps to reduce bad cholesterol while giving us more of the good stuff we need.
  4. Regular walking can be helpful in the reduction of risk for stroke. Another health benefit of regular walking is the reduction of risk for stroke. Specialists believe that a 30-60 minute walking at least five or six days a week can cut our risk of stroke by 50 percent.
  5. Regular walking can minimize the risk for breast cancer. In addition to walking cutting the risk of diabetes down, it also can reduce the risk of breast cancer. Walking, paired with a low-fat diet is the way to go if you’re trying to lose weight and stay healthy!
  6. Going for a walk on a daily basis make bones stronger. It also makes our bones stronger, gives us more energy and makes us feel good and sleep better. All-in-all, walking is hands down the best exercise there is. Almost everyone can do it and it is so good for us, you’d be crazy not to!
  7. Daily walking is the best natural source of oxygen. Every cell and tissues of our organism needs the necessary amount of oxygen in order to promote all our body organs to normally function. Fresh air is all-important for everyone, from babies to adults. Especially go for a walk with all your family just after the rain when air is rich in ozone that is very beneficial for total health, including activity of the brain. Let your baby breath in as much oxygen as he can.
  8. Walking is the best work-out for lazy people. Really, many lazy people choose this kind of sports as the main part of their weight loss program. Daily walking really works for everyone, even for the laziest people. The popular health expert Paul Bragg who died at the age of 95 because of surfing accident, recommended walking to everyone who wanted to live healthy and long life.
As you might know, Paul Bragg was giving lectures in many countries of the world. Therefore he spent his daily life mostly in hotels where he didn’t sleep unless he walked in the corridor for minimum 30 minutes a day.

Doing meditation the Reiki way

Regular practice of the simple two-way technique of Reiki meditation can not only help you improve your focus and awaken you spiritually, but also can amplify your innate healing abilities to help you achieve holistic health.

Maintaining a high level of life force energy, prana, is a pre-requisite for holistic health, achieved through practice of various techniques that can generate balance between body and mind, such as Yoga, Tai Chi, Quantum Touch, or Reiki, to name just a few. All of them employ one or the other form of meditation as an important component for treatment at the physical, mental, and emotional levels.

The two-in-one Reiki meditation technique deftly combines the healing powers of both meditation and Reiki. The benefits accruing from them increase manifold as a consequence of synergy generated by blending them together. What keeps Reiki meditation apart from other meditation forms is its unique ability to strengthen the innate healing capability of the practitioner.

Mikao Usui revived the ancient art of tapping into the universal life force energy for healing known as Reiki. He was once asked by a pupil," I have practised meditation for a number of years, why do I need to learn Reiki to help me learn to meditate?" Meditation is an integral part of Reiki. In his Reiki practice and teachings, Usui practised meditation as an important constituent. In fact, he often used Gassho (hands held in prayer position) meditation as a means to pass the ability to channel Reiki to the practitioner. Also, Osho Rajneesh who developed Osho Neo Reiki twenty years ago included powerful meditations for a faster healing.

After Mikao Usui, a number of forms of Reiki Meditations have found their way in Japan and other countries.

One of the simplest but effective RM involves the following steps:

1. Sit quietly with closed eyes in a Sukh Asana or upright in a chair, with both hands held in front of your chest in prayer `Gassho position and the soles of the feet joined together.

2. Connect to Reiki by simple intent or by drawing distant healing symbol

3. Draw the power symbol with your hand in front of you and say it three times. Visualise white light emanating from your fingers.

4. Visualize the symbol in the third eye chakra and meditate on it.

5. Now allow the symbol to float up as a brilliant light above your crown. Return your awareness to the third eye chakra.

6. When finished, relax and release your all thoughts. You feel fully energised with the healing energy

For those who do not possess the ability to channel Reiki, the Gassho meditation can be performed in this way:

1. Hold your hands a little above the chest in prayer position in such a way that that your exhaled breath can be felt at a point where the top of the middle fingers representing fire element meet the hands joined together.

2. Now focus your attention at that point and try to release stray thoughts by focussing at the point repeatedly. Do not try to chase stray thoughts. Return your focus to the point by pressing the two middle fingers against each other.

Practise RM for twenty minutes a day or as long as you feel comfortable. Reiki Meditation deftly combines the usual healing effects of simple meditation techniques with Reiki and works in more ways than one.

CAUTION! Car AC

Do not turn on A/C immediately as soon as you enter the car!

Please open the windows after you enter your car and do not turn ON the air-conditioning immediately. According to a research done, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emits Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen- take note of the heated plastic smell in your car). In addition to causing cancer, it poisons your bones, causes anemia, and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer may also cause miscarriage.

Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. ft. A car parked indoors with
the windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level... & the people inside the car will inevitably inhale an excess amount of the toxins.

It is recommended that you open the windows and door to give time for
the interior to air out before you enter. Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver, and is very difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.

When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it,
you have a moral obligation to share it with others

Mistakes ~ Never Quit

Og MandinoImage via Wikipedia
"Whenever you make a mistake or get knocked down by life, don't look back at it too long. Mistakes are life's way of teaching you. Your capacity for occasional blunders is inseparable from your capacity to reach your goals. No one wins them all, and your failures, when they happen, are just part of your growth. Shake off your blunders. How will you know your limits without an occasional failure? Never quit. Your turn will come."~ Og Mandino

The Family Clinic: 50 family physicians

A body formed by Gujarat-based doctors has come up with a novel plan to oust quacks and make healthcare services more accessible in Ahmedabad and other parts of the state.

The body, Gujarat State Family Physicians’ Forum (GSFPF), has persuaded 50 physicians, who run private clinics, to operate under an umbrella brand, ‘The Family Clinic’, and adopt same set of standards of medical practice.

For instance, currently only your family physician knows your medical history — i.e. the diseases you are prone to, the medicines you are allergic to and the treatments you respond to the most, among others.

Now, if your physician gets affiliated to ‘The Family Clinic’ brand, then your medical history will be accessible to doctors at all other member clinics. This, effectively, means that you can avail healthcare services not just in your area of residence, but anywhere in the city, without fretting over faulty diagnosis and inflated bills.

50 family clinics to open today
There are more than 1,500 physicians in Ahmedabad. In fact, the 50 physicians who have agreed to operate under the same brand will reopen their clinics on Sunday. The clinics are located in Naranpura, Ghatlodia, Vastrapur, Maninagar, Sabarmati, Satellite and Shahpur, among other areas.

Sharing of medical records will enable better treatment
Vachharajani said that a software would be installed at all family clinics to enable sharing of patients’ medical records. All family clinics will follow a common protocol for treatment of diseases. They will run various check-up programmes, and will also share data on various diseases with the government and NGOs.

Conquer Inferiority

  • Formulate and Stamp permanently on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding.
  • Whenever a negative thought concerning your personal powers comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out.
  • Do not build up obstacles in your imagination.
    • Depreciate every so-called obstacle. Minimize them. Difficulties must not be inflated by fear thoughts.
  • Do not be awestruck by other people and try to copy them.
    • Remember: Most people despite their confident appearance and demeanor (behavior, conduct), are often as scared as you are and as doubtful of themselves.
  • 10 times a day repeat these dynamic words...
    • "If God be for us, who can be against us?"
  • Make a true estimate of your own ability, and then raise it 10%.
    • Believe in your own God-released powers.
